The proposed Inverell BESS Project is a 150 MW, 8-hour Battery Energy Storage System located at 6219 Gwydir Highway in Inverell, NSW. The project is designed to strengthen grid stability by delivering bi-directional energy flow, helping to balance supply and demand while supporting the integration of affordable, clean renewable energy. The system is projected to store and release enough energy to power roughly 52,500 homes during each 8-hour discharge cycle.

Strategically positioned between the Gwydir Highway and Elsmore Road, the project site lies next to the Inverell Substation. This close proximity enables an efficient and cost-effective grid connection, eliminating the need for extensive and expensive transmission infrastructure. The project is currently under development and will adhere to the New South Wales’s State Significant Development Guidelines where a Scoping Report is being prepared for submission to the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.
